It’s so hard to believe Adelaide is already 16 months old and we’re expecting baby #2 in just 21 weeks! So much has changed since her first birthday. I realized the other day that I forgot entirely to share her party decoration photos here on the blog, so here they are! When it came to choosing a theme for her first birthday, I didn’t want the pressure, so I kept it simple- balloons and the colors pink and gold. Classy, timeless and I’ll never look back and think “why the heck did I go with a *insert obnoxious character/cartoon* theme?!” When it came time to start planning the balloon garland, I scoured Pinterest high and low for the most cost effective tutorials... because let’s be real, it’s going to end up in the garbage. I ended up using a clear nylon beading thread and a large upholstery needle I already had on hand instead of purchasing the plastic garland strips they sell and it worked like a charm. I thread the balloons on making sure my colors and sizes were extremely alternating and didn’t make my final cut of the nylon until it was condensed and as long as I wanted it. I made loops in the nylon thread that hung on the command hooks I had placed on the wall in the two upper corners of the garland. The balloons I purchased from various shops on Amazon and blew up with just regular old air- not helium. Once her party was over I moved the garland to her playroom wall where it lasted for over a MONTH! I finally got tired of it and had to pop the balloons! I used our entry table to display deserts and her wood name sign from her bedroom as the backdrop behind her high chair. The cake plates I had been collecting for a few years from TJ Maxx and Target dollar spot. If you’re looking for the worlds most simple and affordable high chair, I cannot recommend this Ikea one enough. The entire chair is plastic and wipeable. The legs detach for super easy storage and my favorite part is being able to take it outside and spray it off with the hose when it comes to extreme messes aka spaghetti sauce and paint. I printed off each monthly photo I had taken of Addy and displayed them like a garland on our fireplace and it was so much fun to look back at how much she’s changed in such a short time. I always have scrap wood on hand so I cut out a 1, made a base and spray painted it rose gold as porch decor. I actually stashed it away not knowing if we would ever be planning another first birthday and I’m so glad I did! It can always be painted another color for another party theme!
