So, I may have started another project while finishing my floor project...oops. When we moved into our home, there was hideous wood bead board in the dining room. It made sense at the time to just paint it and move on. We needed to get moved into the house and get settled in. Here is exactly what our dining room looked like in May 2014 when we moved in. Although the carpet throughout was brand new, I don't know anyone who thinks it's practical to have carpet in a dining room. It was a no brainier removing the carpet. Much to our surprise, there were solid hardwoods underneath. We hadn't even known this prior to buying the home. My plan was to install new bamboo throughout, but quickly scratched that plan for a much more economical one- refinishing the existing. Although the paint did make this room look nicer, the board wasn't installed properly, which always irritated me. Seams did not meet nicely (as you can see in the above photo), the board bubbled out in numerous spots and it just made me cringe when I looked at it, which brings me to present time. Today in about 20 minutes I tore it all out after we accidentally knocked off a piece while moving our couches back. I had no idea what I would find behind the boards- wallpaper, no drywall? Who knew, but I'm glad I just went for it. Thankfully, it was only ugly yellow paint! I can handle ugly paint! Now it's time to cover my freshly polyurethaned floors and go to town filling, sanding, and painting! My ultimate plan is to do board and batten around this room, so I will be painting the bottom 3/4 of the wall white. Here is my inspiration picture. That wall color is spot on with mine.
